AWP: DoubleCross, Lame House, & Slash Pine Presents
Oh, where are the Flickr slide shows? Sigh, the camera never got pulled out. No, as one of the first of 500,000 (give or take) off-site readings at 2010’s AWP in Denver, we started at 4:30 p.m. and, as folks rolled in and out of the reading for the next three and half hours, poetry did flow with the whiskey.
Yes, the bar got a bit loud, but Adam Fell started off us dynamically and the poets of Lame House, Slash Pine, and DoubleCross rocked us through the night. Whether the natural world of Anne Shaw, the transcendental rocking of Abe Smith, the awesome collaborations of Gina Myers and Nate Pritts, Brian Oliu closing us out with video game request, all 30 poets came in their own way and gave us a blast.
The venue and the readings were anything but precious, especially as the buffalo burgers and alcohol were consumed with great eagerness. But most importantly, the readers were consistently awesome and the voices diverse, a hallmark of Slash Pine sponsored events. We also want to thank Gina Myers of Lame House and MC Hyland of DoubleCrossed, the former giving the mic a roll, the latter making awesome programs and doing the legwork at coordinating folks. And finally, thanks to all the readers, who had to navigate construction and odd-angled streets to come share their work with us.
Next AWP will find us in Washington, but there is much poetry to be performed from now until then.
